Death of a Goblin
Imprisioned at the Triskellion, Norman attempts to negotiate with the new head of S.H.E.I.L.D Carol Danvers, but she refuses, resulting in Norman breaking out himself. Meanwhile, Peter and Kitty have been working together as super-heroes, despite the two's rocky relationship. Norman goes on national television, telling the world of his treatment and painting himself as a sypathetic figure. Peter sees the broadcast and gets MJ and May to safety before suiting up and looking for Norman. Going to the Osborn Penthouse, Spidey instead encounters Electro, who is working for Osborn. Their fight attracts S.H.E.I.L.D who intervines and captures Peter.
Peter is soon broken out by Kitty and the two find themselves cornered by S.H.E.I.L.D agents. Danvers reveals Peter was meant to be in protective custody and used as bait for Norman. Failing at this, Danvers recruits Kitty and Peter to take down Norman. They find him threatening his accountant, but he escapses, later showing up at Peter's house attempting to convince him to reveal the origins of his powers. The two are informed of a Tv broadcast of Harry Osborn, who is now Danvers' new bait. Norman attacks S.H.E.I.L.D, with Harry turning into the Hobgoblin to stop his father along with Peter. In a fit of rage, Norman accidentally beats Harry to death. Norman begs for his own death, which Danvers delivers when she shoots him. In class, Peter tells everyone about Harry's passing, with them all collectively mourning him.
Did You Know?
- Carol Danvers is seen as the new Director of SHIELD in this arc after the events of the crossover event Ultimate Power, in which Nick Fury was partially responsible for destroying another reality's earth that was home to a version of the Squadrons Supreme. Carol's Earth 616 counterpart is a super-hero, being the first Ms. Marvel and later taking the mantle of Captain Marvel. The Carol Danvers of this universe never gains any super-powers.
- Aunt May is shown to be on a date with Miles Warren, the hypnotherapist that suppressed Harry’s memories and conditioning for Norman. In Earth 616, he is a super-villain called the Jackal who is responsible for creating clones of Spider-Man. He is not the Jackal in this universe and does not appear after this issue.
- In the Miles Morales comics, it's revealed that the Oz drug grants its users immortality, with Peter and Norman returning from the dead. Despite this, Harry never comes back and is presumed to be permenantly dead.
