About This Page
As a comic book fan, one of the most interesting aspects is the creative freedom given to artists and writers for previously established characters. In the early 2000’s, Marvel Comics began a massive reinvention with the Ultimate Comics imprint, with the concept starting out as “What if the superheroes of the marvel universe appeared at the dawn of the 21st century?” The imprint featured classic Marvel teams such as the Fantastic Four, The X-Men, and The Avengers, but none of them were as successful or as popular as Ultimate Spider-Man. Written by Marvel newcomer Brian Michael Bendis and illustrated by veteran Spider-Man artist Mark Bagley, this duo created a whole new era for the web-slinger, eventually paving the way for another Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
Ultimate Spider-Man was my first introduction to comics, as well as many others in my generation, so I wanted to find some way to pay tribute to it. I decided the best way to go about this was to create a website, similar to a fan-wiki and document the various stories throughout the series while pointing out notable information. The information could range from behind-the-scenes development, nods to stories and characters from the Spider-Man mythos and the Marvel universe, as well as documenting connections to the other threads of the Ultimate Universe. I went about it this way so that readers can see the progress of the series over time. As time passes, they might begin to notice how a series this large can develop some issues and some great stories. Ultimate Spider-Man is not without flaws, as the Ultimate Universe in general began to develop problems due to its massive scale, similar to the Mainline comics. As such, I wanted to illustrate the creative effort made to maintain the series, especially one that lasted as long as Ultimate Spider-Man.
