Did You Know?

  • Hammerhead first appeared in the Ultimate universe in Ultimate X-Men, where he encounters the mutant Gambit and is defeated by him after attepting to kill an orphaned girl. Hammerhead references this event when he kills mob boss Silvermaine, who in the main universe is a cyborg gangster and minor foe of Spider-Man’s.
  • A woman wearing a Scarlet Witch costume can be seen in the background of issue 81, repeating the phrase “I’m not crazy.” This is a reference to the character’s mental breakdown in the mainline universe in Avengers: Disassembled, which is a comic also written by Brian Michael Bendis.
  • Jean DeWolfe in the mainline comics was Spider-Man’s close police contact for a time, before she was murdered by a crazed vigilante called Sin-Eater. Here she has a similar role, before it’s revealed she’s a dirty cop working for Kingpin.
